This post isn't exactly about a Mexican radio... it's about Mexican vanilla. Since my last plea for Mexican vanilla, my friend Allison offered me a small bottle of hers that she didn't think she would use. It wasn't the brand I normally use, but it was Mexican, and at least I didn't have to resort to (gasp!) American vanilla! (boo) But as you can see from the picture below, I was even down to the dregs of that vanilla and was starting to get desperate again. (P.S. Don't you like my vanilla carafe? My friend, Emily, got it for me because her mom always kept vanilla in a container like that and when she found one for herself, she got me one too. Cool, huh? Emily is also a Mexican vanilla enthusiast.)
And despite all the warnings in the comments section of my previous post that Mexican vanilla isn't regulated by the FDA, I just don't care! Millions of Mexicans (and a surprisingly large amount of Americans) rely on Mexican vanilla on a daily basis, and we all seem to be ok. And besides that, I have my own views about FDA regulation that you can ask me about later. ANYWAY! I was on the phone with my mom a while back and she mentioned that a friend of hers winters down south and makes frequent trips to Mexico and she asked if I would like some Mexican vanilla. I jumped at the offer! But it got even better! It turns out that Mom's friend had some extra vanilla on hand, and when I went to visit my parents this last weekend, my mom had a lovely, wonderful, beautiful, delicious bottle of Mexican Danncy vanilla just for me. I could have cried! So for all of you who were fretting and worrying about my vanilla situation for the past 11 months, fear not! I am back in vanilla!
P.S. In reading the Alton Brown cookbook that I mentioned in my post yesterday, I found out that Alton Brown is also a fan of Mexican vanilla! Boo-ya!

you know, I just realized that I could have found your mexican vanilla in my neighborhood because every time when I'm going for a walk with Madison or Beans I walk by this store that sells only Mexican products... Sorry I didn't think of it 11 months ago!
Hmm... you'll have to see if they have that brand. I could probably find some brand of Mexican vanilla locally, but I've never seen this brand in the US. But probably in a city specialty store they would have a better selection. If they do have it, I'm sure I'll be out by next Christmas... :)
I'm glad you got your vanilla! I do love your "vanilla carafe." I have one just like it, but I just use it for veg. oil. You make it sound so fancy!
