I Couldn't Be More Proud

She did it! This morning, for the first time ever, Lily picked something up with her toes!!!!!!

For those of you who know me well, this proves that Lily is a chip of the old block because I am rather famous (in my small pond) for being able to tie shoes with my toes. I also can take off and put on my socks with my toes and pick up all sorts of things. My parents say that when I was born it looked like I had two sets of hands. So I'm so glad that Lily is carrying on the legacy of having monkey toes.

This is how it went down: Before breakfast this morning Lily was leading Jim around the middle level of the house by his finger. When she stepped onto the tile, she noticed a little piece of bark on the tile (probably from the soil in a nearby potted plant). Rather than disengaging her occupied hands to pick it up, she immediately stuck out her foot and her little toes started grasping at the piece of wood. After a few failed attempts, she was finally able to clutch it in her toes, and she brought her foot up to her hand so that she could examine it.

I'm so proud! We have another monkey in the family!

Okay a mother/daughter duo would definitely have a good shot at making it on to stupid human tricks. All you need to do now is find an activity that involves you both using your toes!

That's funny, because just this week I was explaining to Julianna what a handy skill that is and showing her how it's done. I hope she has those skillz too!

Glad to see there are lots of us 'fingers for toes' people out there!
